Finding money for college or career training is a critical concern for many young people. Without grants or loans, many students would not have the opportunity to pursue higher education.
Unfortunately, like so many things that involve the government, federally-sponsored student aid programs are complicated and confusing. MONEYSCHOOL has prepared this free Guide as a public service to help aid-seekers understand how the application process works, and how to make the most of financial assistance available through federal grants and loans.
The good news is that you only have to submit one application for all types of Federal Student Aid. With FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, you apply for federally-sponsored grants, work-study, and student loans, all at the same time. The U. S. Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid determines which types of aid you are eligible to receive, based largely on the financial data you provide in your application.
The not-so-good news is that filling out the FAFSA requires a fair amount of time and a lot of information. It can make your tax return seem simple by comparison. But if you need financial aid for college or career training, there's no doubt that Federal Student Aid programs are the best source of need-based education grants and loans. Our Guide will help you gain a basic understanding of those programs and the FAFSA application process, without spending days thumbing through mind-numbing government publications.

We don't require you to give us that information to download the FAFSA Guide, but you'll get some important added benefits if you do:
- Email Updates: Congress and the President are considering major revisions to Federal Student Aid programs that could affect the aid you receive. We'll be sending free email updates to keep you informed about changes that may affect you.
- Special Reports: Most Federal Student Aid is in the form of loans, and many borrowers don't know enough about the very substantial downside risks involved in taking on a large amount of debt to pay for college or career training. With rapidly rising education costs, students are taking on more debt than ever at a time when our shaky economy may not provide them with good jobs after graduation. That can be a recipe for financial disaster. MONEYSCHOOL will soon be releasing two Special Reports designed specifically to help you make smart choices about student loans and investing in your education (see the sidebar at right for more info). You won't want to miss those reports, and if you give us your email address, we'll let you know as soon as they are available!
So before you click to download our free FAFSA guide, please submit your first name and email address using the form below so we can keep you informed of changes in Federal Student Aid programs, AND let you know you when our special reports are available.
